Rankin Inlet, or Kangiqtiniq ("deep bay/inlet" in Inuktitut), is the business and transportation hub of the Kivalliq region in Nunavut. There are 6 other Inuit communities in the Kivalliq. The 2500 person Hamlet of Rankin Inlet is located on the western shore of the Hudson's Bay, and is the gateway to Nunavut from Central and Western Canada. The University of Manitoba J.A Hildes Northern Medical Unit administers the Inuit Health Program in partnership with the Government of Nunavut's Department of Health and Social Services. The program provides community medical rehabilitation services to the Kivalliq Region and is based in Rankin Inlet.

Currently the program is not fully staffed but it employs 2 Physiotherapists, 1 Occupational Therapist and 1 Speech and Language Pathologist.
